I have long been a fan of Billy Graham as I consider his influence and work to have been good. Despite his southern bible-belt background he has been the voice of moderate evangelicalism though not entirely leaving his past behind!
21st Feb 2018 Billy died today. I think he was a great influence for good for Christ and his church inits diversity. I feel that his descendants have not carried on his great work. RIP
On evolution he tended to be a bit sceptical but accepted the whole of geological time. Here he was a product of his time and place.
His attitude to science is summed up in this quote
Billy Graham and Creation Science
Many people look up to Billy Graham, the greatest evangelist of our time. What was his position on creation science? Here’s a quote:
“I don’t think that there’s any conflict at all between science today and the Scriptures. I think that we have misinterpreted the Scriptures many times and we’ve tried to make the Scriptures say things they weren’t meant to say, I think that we have made a mistake by thinking the Bible is a scientific book. The Bible is not a book of science. The Bible is a book of Redemption, and of course I accept the Creation story. I believe that God did create the universe. I believe that God created man, and whether it came by an evolutionary process and at a certain point He took this person or being and made him a living soul or not, does not change the fact that God did create man. … whichever way God did it makes no difference as to what man is and man’s relationship to God.”1
He had it right…the focus should be on Jesus, and the salvation message, not on creation science.

Maybe he was sorta fence-sitting but gave little to complain about.
However his legacy is being trashed by his offspring. The aberrations of his son Franklin are well-known. He is also Young earth unlike his father.
Now his daughter has joined the fray with more wack-jobbery.
It is said to see all Billy Graham did being lost.
Anne Graham Lotz: God Controls the Weather and Reveals Terrorist Plots; Also, Evolution is Evil
It’s been a while since a Christian leader has blamed science and church/state separation for the problems in our world. At least a couple of days, anyway. Time to fix that.
Anne Graham Lotz, daughter of evangelist Billy Graham, told conservative radio host Steve Deace yesterday that America is kicking God of the culture. And that’s why 9/11 and the San Bernardino shootings occurred:
If Americans repent, she said, then “there will be peace on our streets” and God will begin to “reveal the plots of our enemies and terrorists before they are carried out” and “control the weather patterns and protect us from these violent storms that are taking human life.”
She added that “God allows bad things to happen” like the September 11 attacks and the mass shooting in San Bernardino “to show us that we need Him, you know, we’re desperate without him.”
And you thought Franklin Graham was the sole representative of the batshit crazy wing of the family…
Who knew God controls the weather? And reveals terrorist plots? Even though both 9/11 and San Bernardino were the results of people who wanted to please God.
If only we had prayed hard enough, that never would have happened! God always needs his ego stroked a little bit more, doesn’t He?
She wasn’t done yet. Lotz went on to blame the teaching of evolution for the chaos in our world. Because education goes against everything she stands for.
She later told Deace that the U.S. is under the judgment of God in part because of theembrace of the theory of evolution, which started “this downward spiral away from God.”
If America does not return to God, she said, we’ll keep seeing “just the chaos at every level”… such as the Justice Department’s lawsuit against North Carolina for its new discriminatory anti-LGBT law, which she said is “evidence that God has backed away and he’s removed His hand of blessing, favor, protection, and he’s just turning us over to ourselves.”
I’m just going to throw this out there: I don’t think the people who actuallyunderstand evolution are the ones ruining our country in any significant way. Obviously, there’s more to it than that, but if learning science makes people turn away from God, it’s only because religion can’t stand up to reason.
