At times Christmas is a drag for believer and unbeliever alike. I can be even more of drag at times for clergy as one has to do all the expected things (missed that this year!) and at times pander to the Christmas spirit and join in singing the banal “we wish your a merry Christmas”. That makes me puke.

Christmas, despite the commercialism and frequent banality, does focus on so many issues and needs which people face in life, giving a real meaning to life by means of a story, or a history and for Mary a herstory, rather than complex philosophical advice on purpose and altruism etc.
